“Takashima Chijimi” has been produced since the Tenmei era of the Edo period in Takashima City, located northwest of Lake Biwa.
The tradition has been continuously passed down to the present day as chijimi, crepe, and yokan (crinkled) woven fabrics.
Its unique crinkled texture reduces skin contact, providing a light, smooth feel with excellent sweat absorption—perfect for Japan’s hot and humid climate.
With a thickness similar to muslin, it can be used widely for clothing and interior items.
